Chanukah in Mazel Day School

Happy Chanukah!

I hope all of you are having a very happy Chanukah. Here at Mazel Day School we are learning so much and experiencing Chanukah in so many ways.
It's been a while since the last post and there is a lot to catch up on.

I'll start with today and hopefully make my way backwards:

Today was a packed day!
In the morning we took a trip to the Jewish Children's Museum where we searched for jugs of oil hidden all around, went shopping for Kosher food, learned how to make olive oil from olives, rolled wax candles and participated in a fantastic game show!

The Jewish Holidays exhibits:

Happy Chanukah and I hope to see you all at the Chanukah party tomorrow.

Also, please note that the vocabulary test will G-d willing take place next week.

Math Update

We've been quite busy here in 3rd Grade Math class! We've touched on many topics this Unit 1, which has included place value, ordering numbers, greater and less-than symbols, and rounding... to name a few! We've been using new math manipulatives to help us understand these topics as well as lots of practice as a class, in pairs, and on our own. Enjoy the pictures of 3rd Grade - hard at work!

Getting Ready for Yom Kippur

Judaic Studies in 3rd grade has gotten off to a great start!
We have been learning a lot about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur over the past few weeks. Some of the main themes that we have been focusing on is the special importance of teshuvah- repentance, tefillah- prayer, and tzedakah- charity and acts of kindness during this time.

Please enjoy the following photos of some of the activities we enjoyed:

Kapparos

Rabbi Okunov swung a chicken over our heads as asked Hashem to forgive us in the merit of our giving the chicken to tzedakah to help feed a poor family.
