Pesach- Urchatz, Karpas, Yachatz

Here are some pictures of 3rd grade learning about the "Urchatz", "Karpas" and "Yachatz" steps of the seder:

Karpas
Dipping a vegetable in salt water to remind us of the tears that the Jewish People cried while they were in slavery

There are many different customs for karpas: Some use a green vegetable like celery or parsley, and some use potatoes or even onions!

Tasting the Karpas
Reacting to the salty taste of tears!

Yachatz
We break the middle matzah:
We hide the bigger half for the Afikoman and smaller half we put back into the middle so that it can remind us of the slavery while we tell the story of Pesach.

Israel Show and Tell

Dear Parents,

Third grade is busy learning about Tu Bishvat. This week we learned about machzorim, cycles in nature and focused on the water cycle. We have also been reading the book "Savta Simcha and the Seven Splendid Gifts", which describes Savta Simcha's travels throughout the Land of Israel collecting the seven special fruits that grow there.

Thursday, January 24, will be Israel Day in our class. The students were instructed to bring an item from home that reminds them of Israel. It can be a souvenir, photo, something made in Israel, or simply something that reminds them of Israel. Please help your child select an item that they will feel proud to share with the class.

Here are some photos of some of the learning that we've captured on camera this week:
